Field Communications Technician/Tower Climber (Kenedy, TX)

The Field Communications Technician/Tower Climber is responsible for safely installing communication equipment to include installation of equipment on communication towers. This position requires a safety-conscious, customer-facing, goal-driven professional to understand and install communications industries such as Oil & Gas and Utilities, for multiple locations and/or projects. Field communications technicians repair, install or maintain mobile or stationary radio transmitting, broadcasting and receiving equipment, and two-way radio communications systems used in telecommunications, mobile broadband, and ground-to-tower communications.

Special Skills

Technician will need to understand:

•    CRR TotalSCADA safety policies and procedures
•    Importance, timeliness and principles of communications and SCADA systems
•    Basic principles of communications and tower climbing
•    Working and contributing to team goals and deadlines
•    Importance of timely issuance of materials to customer’s job orders
•    Importance of entering time charges promptly and accurately

•    How to be results-oriented and focused
•    How to think critically and operationally
•    How to self-manage and work with a sense of urgency

Education & Experience

•    High school diploma or GED required
•    Associate degree in technical field preferred, but not required
•    2+ years of tower climbing experience preferred, but not required (must be willing and able to work on communication towers up to 300 feet and get tower certified)
•    Proficient at using computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

Responsibilities Include:

•    Following company safety policies and procedures at all times
•    Working to understand processes and technologies in order to improve data communications 
•    Climbing communication towers to install, replace, or repair antennas or auxiliary equipment used to transmit and receive radio waves
•    Installing and securing equipment into place, using hand or power tools
•    Inspecting completed work to ensure all hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, proper support is in place, or adequate weather proofing has been installed
•    Installing necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arrestors, transmission lines, connectors, or tower-mounted components 
•    Lifting equipment into position, using cranes, capstan hoist and rigging tools
•    Performing maintenance or repair work on existing tower equipment using hand or power tools
•    Ability to listen and prioritize customer inquiries and demands
